Manufacturing heads in the pharmaceutical industry will unite at the NGP Summit in Bremen, Germany from 15-17 September to discuss how to get swine flu vaccines out to the market as quickly as possible.

More than 50 of the leading pharmaceutical companies will discuss the future of pharmaceutical production and supply as they are currently under tremendous pressure from governments to combat the H1N1 pandemic.

"The battle to beat swine flu is not just being fought in the lab, the virus must be tackled on all fronts," says Julia MacKenzie, director at Next Generation Pharmaceutical (NGP). "Once the vaccination is developed, the industry must be prepared by having a lean manufacturing and supply system to get it out to the masses."

Speakers will include Steve Dreamer, head of Global Pharma Engineering and IQP at Novartis Pharma, who will discuss manufacturing and his five-year plan of LEAN process.

Dick Winokur, vp of Clinical Supply Chain at sanofi-aventis will discuss the right technology to use in the pharma manufacturing and packaging environments; and Dr Graham Cook, senior director of Process Knowledge/Quality by Design for Wyeth Pharmaceuticals will discuss the Quality by Design initiative to transform the development and manufacture of pharmaceutical products.
