Powerful images

A powerful, compact, lightweight digital camera has been designed for professional microphotographers in medicine, natural sciences and research by Leica Microsystems. The new Leica DC180 is said to be suitable for all microscopic processes, including incident light and transmitted light microscopy with low contrast and illumination and even low-light fluorescence.

The camera gives flicker-free, precise, sharp, live images in video real-time at a rate of 25 images/second. This allows for immediate recordings of quickly fading fluorescence specimens such as those used in biology and gene technology.

Extended integration time of up to 10 seconds generates a usable signal without loss of quality even in very poor light. The digitisation of the image signal direct at the CCD sensor allows high transfer speeds and reliable data transmission with no loss of data or quality. With this technology, the live image is not only noise-free but also significantly sharper than the image generated by a video camera, says Leica.
