German packaging specialist SÜDPACK Medica has unveiled MedGuard, an integrated sterile barrier packaging system.
The firm said in its statement that the new product is aimed at helping pharmaceutical, medical technology and life sciences manufacturers optimise packaging validation, sealing performance and sustainability.
The MedGuard platform combines bottom webs, lidding films and pouch systems with process expertise and sustainability assessments to deliver validated packaging concepts for sterile applications.
The company added that the system-based approach is designed to support manufacturers from development and qualification through to commercial scale-up.
The launch reflects increasing demand within the healthcare and pharmaceutical manufacturing sectors for packaging systems that can meet stringent regulatory requirements while also supporting circularity and sustainability targets.
According to SÜDPACK Medica, MedGuard has been developed to simplify material selection and improve packaging reliability across different sterilisation methods, including steam, ethylene oxide (EtO) and gamma sterilisation.
A central feature of the platform is the Product Navigator, a digital tool that helps manufacturers identify suitable material combinations based on application requirements and sterilisation processes.
The company said the tool can help reduce development timelines and minimise risks during packaging design and validation.
The MedGuard portfolio includes flexible and rigid packaging formats, ranging from thermoforming films to pouch and bag systems.
Dedicated lidding materials are produced under certified cleanroom conditions to support sterile packaging validation requirements, including compliance with International Organization for Standardization standard ISO 11607.
Customers are encouraged to conduct sealing trials at the company's Technology Center in Ochsenhausen using MedGuard films and different lidding materials to assess peel performance, sealing ranges and process robustness before full-scale commercial implementation.
