A leading UK manufacturer of single-use laboratory plastics has set up as an independent business and adopted the name of its market-leading brand.

Formerly part of Barloworld Scientific, Sterilin Limited will consist of four established product brands: Sterilin single use plastics; Iwaki tissue culture products; Sterilin Silicone Devices (formerly Esco Silicone Rubber); and Sterilin Packaging Products (formerly Azlon Packaging).

The newly formed Sterilin Limited offers a wide range of products for the pharmaceutical, clinical and healthcare, food, forensics and industrial packaging industries. The range of single use plastics comprises more than 800 products used extensively in microbiology and the life sciences including specimen containers, Petri dishes, multiwell plates and centrifuge tubes.

All Sterilin products are manufactured at the company's ISO 9001:2000 accredited plant in South Wales, UK, where a commitment to continuous product development and investment in injection moulding technology, cleanroom and microbiological research facilities ensures that every item is made to the highest possible quality, the company says.

"The new company structure will allow us to provide more focus and strategic direction for each of our product lines," said John Adkins, ceo, Sterilin Limited. "With a renewed focus on manufacturing and new product development, this is an exciting time for the company and one that will enable us to grow from strength to strength."
