Thermo Fisher Scientific has introduced the GLD Pro leak detector to identify gas leaks. This hand-held electronic device is designed for use with gas chromatography (GC) systems and their accessories, such as purge and trap systems.
This compact unit provides fast, contamination-free leak detection and according to Thermo Fisher offers a more reliable and convenient method than liquid leak detectors, which can contaminate the column and cause permanent damage to the stationary phase.
The GLD Pro detects even the smallest gas leaks (<1ml/min), which are indicated with both an LED display and an audible alarm. This makes it suitable for checking valves, fittings and traps for leaks after maintenance, preventing damage to columns and sensitive detectors and improving analytical performance.
The device employs dual thermistor technology, which then measures the ratio of the concentration of the probe and reference heat exchange values and displays the results on the LED display. The instrument's pencil-tip probe is able to reach difficult and confined areas to pinpoint the exact location of the leak.
In addition, the unit offers side grips for added durability and one-handed operation. It is available with a convenient carrying and storage case.
