Pigging can save money for many manufacturers, according to Hygienic Pigging Systems.

The HPS system ensures that product is not wasted at the end of a run, less effluent is produced and production turnover is faster, according to the company. In some cases, it can also mean that the length of the production run itself can be reduced.

At the end of a production run, a special rubber pig is propelled through the pipeline, pushing through remaining fluids. The pig is returned to its housing at the end of the cycle, where it can be cleaned.

Unique features of the HPS pigging system are that the pig can travel in dry lines, can operate under very low pressures, high temperature and in zone 1 hazardous areas. It is built from FDA-approved materials and its magnetised silicone core allows it to negotiate 180° bends.
