Timely launch for child-resistant blisterpack

With the publication of a new BSI protocol testing standard for blisterpacks imminent, the launch of a child-resistant blisterpack for clinical trials by Brecon Pharmaceuticals is particularly timely.

The patented Pick and Peel blistercard system was developed by Pro-Clinical, Brecon's US-based global joint-venture partner, and has been designed to meet current US federal regulations under the Poison Prevention Packaging Act. It has undergone protocol testing stipulated in the Act for both child-resistant and senior-adult use effectiveness, and has been certified for use in clinical trials by the Consumer Product Safety Commission , says Brecon.

The back of each individual blister pocket is sealed with a peel-away tab that has to be removed before the dose form can be pushed through from the reverse side. The child-resistant element can be removed to allow use of the pack by senior-adults without compromising the integrity of the packaging.

The system is compatible with all current films and foils and can be incorporated either before or after the blisters are filled.
