Uhlmann launches first intermittent cartoner
Making its debut was the C2155 high end cartoner from Uhlmann UK. The machine, the company's first servo driven intermittent cartoner, is capable of producing up to 150 cartons/min. in sizes up to 115 x 90 x 150mm.
Only six change parts are required to switch sizes, and these use 'clip-in clip-out' technology for rapid changeover by the operator, who requires only low-skill training. The machine also features Uhlmann's patented DuoStar carton feeder.
This enables it to handle inferior carton qualities, including those which have been in storage for extended periods, and badly scored, hand-glued cartons without prior pre-breaking.
The C2155 was demonstrated together with the company's latest blisterpacker. Capable of up to 240 blisters/min, the B1260 features an integrated inline vacuum transfer system. Either pre-printed foil substrates can be used or an on-line foil printing system for up to two colours is available as an option.
Uhlmann also used the show to promote its on-line servicing system for advice and diagnosis. Using ISDN communications technology, DataStream consists of software, a monitor, keyboard, digital video camera and a live headset that is connected to the rest of the system by a radio link.
If there is a problem, the user is able to act as the eyes and ears of the service engineer over the ISDN link by showing him remotely what is happening and trying out potential solutions in real time. If a spare is required to effect a repair, the parts catalogue is also available online.
