US FDA approves Levofloxacin
For the treatment of bacterial infections in adults
The US regulators have approved the first generic versions of the antibiotic levofloxacin to treat bacterial infections in adults.
Levofloxacin is used to treat mild, moderate, or severe bacterial infections of the skin, sinuses, kidneys, bladder, and prostate caused by specific germs. It also is used to treat certain bacterial infections that cause bronchitis or pneumonia, and to treat those exposed to inhalational anthrax.
The US FDA has approved generic tablet, oral solution, and injectable solution dosage forms of levofloxacin.
Akorn, Aurobindo Pharma, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, Glenmark Generics, Hi-Tech Pharmacal, Lupin, Mylan Pharmaceuticals, Sagent Strides, Sandoz, Teva Pharmaceuticals USA , Torrent Pharmaceuticals and Wockhardt all offer generic versions of the drug that have been approved.
