The Pennsylvania, US manufacturing site will provide specialty precursor chemicals to the medical device and semiconductor markets

Mitsubishi Chemical Group-owned Gelest has opened a new US precursor chemical production facility in Morrisville, Pennsylvania.

The 50,000 sqft production facility will boost the company's chemical production capabilities, bolstering its capacity to support manufacturers working in the medical device niche.

This follows Gelest's previous investments into Morrisville, taking the company's footprint up to nine buildings within the region — whcih each covering areas such as R&D, manufacturing and administration.

The primary focus of the Morrisville site will be to develop and manufacture precursor chemicals for use in dry resist EUV lithography, an advanced semiconductor manufacturing technique.

"The new building will allow us to fulfill the growing demand for specialty materials in advanced markets, particularly microelectronics and medical devices," noted Edward Kimble, Gelest's Senior Business Director and General Manager.

Located on a revitalised US EPA Brownfield site, the production facility will feature analysis, packaging and high-volume maufacturing equipment.

It will also include an ISO 7 cleanroom with advanced analytical instrumentation to ensure quality and chemical purity.

"Mitsubishi Chemical Group is committed to innovation, and we're keen to support both the US and global supply chain for critical materials," added Jonathan Goff, VP of Business, Advanced Solutions Domain.
